Money Is Flowing Back Into Crypto
Crypto pulled in $3.2 billion in inflows last week, the largest since October 2025. Bitcoin (BTC) had its best August since August 2017, closing the month up about 23%. August is historically one of Bitcoin's worst months. Watch what big money does, not what people say.
Institutions are buying crypto stocks, shown by jumping trading volumes. This points to a bet on a strong fourth quarter. B Soul, the Bitwise Solana (SOL) staking ETF, traded over 126 million in a single day - the highest single-day volume of any Solana ETF ever, beating its own record from Monday. Tom Lee reads the rising volumes as institutions positioning for a big Q4.
Volume is spiking on crypto exchanges worldwide. On South Korea's Upbit, trading volume rose 273% as Korean investors return to crypto. Korean traders rotated into AI earlier this year and are now rotating back into crypto.
If the Clarity Act passes, which could happen this year, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) could have a huge fourth quarter.
The Chart That Signals Altcoin Season
The key indicator pairs two charts: Ethereum (ETH) against the US dollar on top, and the US ISM Manufacturing PMI (the business cycle) on the bottom. The trigger level is 58. When the ISM crosses 58, altcoins run, and Ethereum leads.
Right now the ISM sits around 56, not yet at 58. Crossing 58 is what launched altcoin season in 2017 and 2021. At 56, current conditions look like late 2020 or early-to-mid 2017. Crossing 58 matters for altcoin prices, not the Bitcoin price - and altcoins have historically been led by Ethereum.
The pattern repeats: in February 2017 the ISM touched 58 for the first time in years, which started liquidity flowing into risk assets and kicked off the altcoin bull run. In December 2020 the ISM again turned up over 58 for the first time in years, sending altcoins to new all-time highs in 2021. Prices have ranged since.
In 2025 Ethereum did not hit a new all-time high even though Bitcoin did well. Altcoins depend more on liquidity, and risk assets have to be "in season." The ISM had been stuck in one of its longest, lowest ranges ever - more than 6 years below 50. Ethereum has bumped up over the past month but stays far from all-time highs because the ISM has not broken above 58. It is finally above 50 but has not made the breakout above 58.
Not All Altcoins Are Equal - Bittensor
Bittensor's TAO token got a new listing on HTX, one of Asia's biggest markets. Bittensor's Subnet 3 out-competes every other decentralized pre-trained model on benchmarks, including models valued at 40 to 70 billion - beating companies 7 times its size.
Jason Calacanis predicts TAO models will consistently rank top 20 against competitors over the next 12 months while costing less than the average model in that category - doing more for less against firms at least 7x their size. Over 24 months there is a nonzero chance they reach top 10 consistency. Like Bitcoin, the network is adding a shocking amount of compute. Adding spare compute to Bittensor builds "AI sovereignty" while minting tokens. Calacanis, who was early to Uber, frames buying one TAO as a bet on decentralized, open-source AI and a pure lottery ticket that could go 10x to 100x.
The Bill Gates Skepticism
Talking heads still call crypto too volatile. Asked which he would pick if forced to diversify a small part of a portfolio outside the US dollar - euro, crypto, gold, or Chinese yuan - Bill Gates said he would not choose crypto. He called himself a skeptic of "pure mania-driven assets." He noted gold is up at $3,000 an ounce and admitted missing that run, and said the euro will not move much. His view: a rich country like the US does not get 5% growth; 2.5% to 3% is good, and AI might deliver that. His best long-term pick was a globally balanced basket of equities.
The Take
Now is the time to tune back into crypto. Watch the flows and the adoption. Tokenization is not going away. Decentralized AI is not going away and will claim a piece of the fast-growing AI market. This is a golden age of opportunity.
