American Water Works is the largest US investor-owned water and wastewater utility, serving nearly 4 million customers across 14 states in regulated markets. The company provides essential water and wastewater services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, supplemented by a nonregulated segment serving military bases under long-term contracts. The proposed Essential Utilities acquisition would expand its geographic footprint into Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, and strengthen its presence in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia.
